{15 Minute Monday} The Easiest Way to Always have a Clean Bathroom

July 22, 2013

Today I am continuing on with my 15 Minute Monday posts. Each Monday I will post an organising task that will only take you 15 minutes to complete. 52 of these throughout the year and we will be well on our way to having beautifully organised homes. Follow along on Instagram or Facebook and together we can organise our homes 15 minutes at a time.

Today I have a tip for my lovely readers which will change your bathroom cleaning routine for good. There is no need to spend hours each week cleaning your bathroom and no more panicking about the state of your bathroom when unexpected guests pop in. If you spend just a few minutes a day, I promise you can always have clean bathrooms.

First you need to get 3 different coloured microfibre cloths and 3 hooks (can be either nailed in or the sticky ones). Put your hooks up on the inside of your bathroom cabinet door, then hang one cloth on each hook. If you have more than one bathroom, hang a set of cloths up in each one.

Note: I buy my microfibre cloths from Aldi and they are FANTASTIC! I have used 3 or 4 different brands and these are by far the best (in regards to using, washing and drying). They come in a pack of 2 for about $2.

Each colour cloth is used for a different area of your bathroom. I use the yellow cloth for my basins, the green one is a glass microfibre cloth which I use for my mirrors and the purple is for toilets. Try to use the same colours in each bathroom so there is no confusion. You could also put some little labels above the hooks or write on the tag with a fabric marker.

Each day during the week I spend a minute giving the basin, mirror and toilet a quick wipe over. I usually do this in the morning after I have finished getting ready for the day. I use a spray bottle with water and start with the mirror, I then give the basin a quick wipe to get rid of all the moisture and finally wipe over the toilet and give it a quick swish with the brush. A couple of times a week I will also use a bit of toilet cleaner to freshen it up.

It seriously takes no more than 3 minutes a day to have both of my bathrooms and my powder-room basin looking sparkling and clean.

Keeping on top of your bathrooms throughout the week means when it comes time to do a proper clean each week, all the work is done for you. All you really have to do is disinfect and clean the floors to get your bathroom shining.

Under my bathroom sink, I keep a basket with a spray bottle of water, a spray bottle of disinfectant and toilet cleaner. Having all the supplies you need already in the bathroom means you are much more likely to give it a wipe over while you are in there.

You could clean the mirror while you are brushing your teeth, or wipe over the bathroom while you are keeping an eye on your kids in the bath.

Bath cleaning tip: to keep my bath clean, I give it a wipe over with little H’s face washer after every bath then disinfect once a week. Easy!

I hope this helps to keep all your bathrooms gleaming, all the time. Don’t forget to post a picture to my Facebook page or hashtag #15minutemonday on Instagram. Love this idea. However we only have a small wall cabinet in our bathroom. Any ideas on how to adapt it to smaller bathrooms?
